LES is a publicly-owned electric utility providing electricity to all residential, commercial, and industrial customers within a 190 square-mile Service Area in Lancaster County, Nebraska. It includes the communities of Lincoln, Waverly, Prairie Home, Walton, Cheney & Emerald.


Our Customers -
LES provides electricity to over 200,000 people in its Service Area. We are proud that Lincoln area citizens have electric bills that are among the lowest in the United States!


Our Employees -
LES has over 400 employees working to provide reliable efficient electricity. This service is provided through the talents of many different types of positions that require a variety of skills and knowledge to keep the electricity flowing. LES positions range from:
  • Professional/Technical positions that provide the organization with needed engineering designs, information systems, analysis, accounting, supervision and information gathering necessary for Management to make decisions related to running an electric utility. Titles of some of those positions would be:
    Engineers
    Drafting Technicians
    Power Dispatchers
    Field Engineers
    Rates/Forecasting Analysts
    Land Management Agent
    Energy Management Specialists
    Accountants
    Computer Application positions
  • Technicians who are responsible for installing and maintaining electrical facilities. Titles of some of those positions would be:
    Line Clearance Ground Technicians
    Ground Technicians
    Equipment Mechanics
    Heavy Equipment Operators
    Substation Construction Technician
    Meter Technician
    Line Technician
  • Administrative Support positions that ensure customers and employers are responded to properly. Titles of some of those positions would be:
    Secretary/Word Processor
    Order Clerk
    Credit Clerk/Cashier
    Accounts Payable Aide
    Account Specialist
  • Management/Supervisory positions direct the day to day operations of the existing staff and set plans in place to provide power and energy services at the lowest cost. Titles of some of those positions would be:
    Construction & Maintenance Crew Leaders

    Department Supervisors
    Division Managers


Our Benefits
- LES offers a comprehensive benefits package. Some benefits include:

  • Health Care Program - A point-of-service health care program is available. LES pays three-fourths of the total cost for full-time employees and their eligible dependents upon hire.

  • Electri-Flex - Allows employees to pay their share of certain LES-provided benefits with pre-tax dollars.

  • Trans-Flex - Allows employees to pay for qualifying parking or commuting expenses with pre-tax dollars. LES contributes to a portion of these expenses.

  • Dental Care Program - LES pays three-fourths of the total cost for full-time employees and their eligible dependents upon hire.

  • Life Insurance - Employee coverage is based on one and one- half times their annual salary. LES pays two-thirds of the total cost for full-time employees and their eligible dependents upon hire.

  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment - Provided for employees who are enrolled in group life insurance.

  • Long-Term Disability Insurance - Employees enrolled in group life insurance automatically receive this coverage.

  • Employee's Retirement Plan - Upon hire, employees may contribute up to 5% of their gross earnings. After six months, LES matches the employee's contribution on a two-for-one basis.

  • Deferred Compensation Plan - An additional opportunity to save money on a tax-deferred basis is available. There is no LES contribution for this program.

  • Holidays - LES recognizes 11 (eight standard and three personal) holidays in a calendar year.

  • Personal Leave (Vacation) - Personal leave earning rate is based on length of service with LES.

  • Sick Leave - Credited on the basis of 1 day (8 hours) for each month of service. Vesting of Sick Leave (payment of up to 20% of accumulated sick leave is made at retirement or termination of employment) is also provided.

  • Savings Plans (Credit Union & Savings Bonds) - LES employees are eligible to become members of the 1st Choice Credit Union and may purchase Series "EE" U.S. Savings Bonds.

  • Educational Tuition Assistance Program - This program provides reimbursement for tuition and fees for successfully completing approved position-related courses.

  • Wellness Program - LES actively supports and provides employees with wellness information and activities.

  • PC Loans - LES provides interest-free loans to employees purchasing a computer system for home use.
